Privacy policy
Last updated: 8 October 2026
Emailrs is a desktop application that runs on your own computer. It is developed by Arda Uzun as a personal project. This policy explains what data Emailrs accesses, what it does with it, and where it goes.
The short version
- Your mail, calendar and settings are stored only on your own computer.
- The developer runs no server that receives your data and cannot see it.
- Emailrs has no analytics, telemetry, advertising or tracking, and never sells data.
- Data leaves your computer only to talk to your own mail and calendar providers, and — only if you turn the AI features on — to the AI provider you choose.
Data Emailrs accesses
When you add an account, Emailrs signs in to it with your permission and accesses:
- Gmail (scope
https://mail.google.com/): your messages, folders and labels, to show them to you, keep them in sync, send the messages you write, and apply the changes you make (reading, archiving, moving, deleting, labelling). - Google Calendar (scope
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar): your calendars and events, to show them to you and create, change or answer the events you choose. - The same kind of data from other accounts you add (Outlook.com, Yahoo, iCloud, other IMAP and CalDAV servers).
Where it is stored
Messages, events and the search index are stored in your user folder on your computer (~/.local/share/emailrs). Sign-in tokens and passwords are stored in your system's keyring, never in plain files. Nothing is stored on any server operated by the developer.
When data leaves your computer
- Your mail and calendar providers. Emailrs talks directly to Google, Microsoft, Yahoo or your own server to sync and send, over encrypted connections.
- AI features — off by default. If you turn them on and choose a provider (DeepSeek or Z.ai), Emailrs sends the text of new messages — converted to plain text, shortened, without attachments — to that provider to sort them, set priorities and write summaries, and sends your questions and the relevant messages when you use the chat. You can exclude any account, and mail of an excluded account is never sent. The provider's own privacy policy applies to what it receives.
- Remote images in a message are fetched only when you choose to load them, without cookies.
- Other programs on your computer can read mail through Emailrs' local agent interface only if you create an access token for them, with the permissions you choose; nothing is reachable from the network.
Use of Google user data
Emailrs uses Google user data only to provide the features you see and use in the application. It does not use Google user data for advertising, does not sell it, does not use it to train AI models, and does not allow humans to read it. Google user data is transferred to a third party (an AI provider) only when you have turned on the AI features for that account, and only to provide those features to you.
Deleting your data
Removing an account in Emailrs deletes its local data (you can choose to keep a local copy). Uninstalling Emailrs and deleting ~/.local/share/emailrs removes everything. You can revoke Emailrs' access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
